A downloadable game for Windows

Hi there!

I am a passionate of game development with special interest in graphics and all what involves engine development. I am currently working as a game programmer in a company and in my spare time I am working on the development of a 3D game using my own game engine.

Why not using existing engines like Unity, Unreal or Godot?

I started my game development career using the Unity engine more than 5 years ago and lately I have also been diving in Unreal engine. However, I have been always curious on how game engines are implemented and work under the hood. That brought me to start this project more than one year ago with the main goal of learning more about game engines, graphics programming and also to improve my C# programming skills.

Honestly, I did not expect to get that far... This side project became more and more bigger and exciting. I have learned a lot during the process and now I am fully committed to finish the game and publish it!

Game prototype idea (updated 09-06-2024):

The initial idea was making a game based on exploration and puzzle solving, but due to lack of time to realize all the art and level design required, I am shifting towards stealth and puzzle solving in a setup based on dynamic and small levels.

Most of the inspiration comes from games like The Last Campfire and A Hat in Time and Commandos. I would like to create dynamic levels where stealth and puzzle solving are combined to get an enjoyable gameplay.

There are still many open possibilities and I am actively testing and realizing what fits better and what is more realistic to do for a solo developer.

Current state of the project (updated 09/06/2024):

This is the very early prototype phase of the project. The downloadable game is the first prototype based on exploration and puzzle solving. Currently, I am working on a prototype based on stealth and puzzle solving and will be available soon. Fortunately, the current state of the editor tooling and engine, allows me to rapidly prototpye new concepts and ideas. The art style shown in the current demo is the direction I will follow as it is rather simple but enjoyable, and can be easilly improved using postprocessing effects and more shader tricks as necessary.

Future progress and what to expect from this game and the devlogs:

Here, I would like to share my project with the community and start solidifying the prototype concept into a real game project. With that in mind, I am currently working on a demo to be played by the community. I want to make use of the devlogs to keep you all engaged with the project and to recieve as much feedback as possible to make of this game something that you all would like to play.

The progress will still be slow. Developing a game without a commercial engine implies many aspects that take time. But it is also an interesting opportunity to show the other side, the engine development aspect, the editor tooling creating and much more to all of you while the game is being developed.

I just hope you enjoy the journey with me as much as I am enjoying the development process!

Important (updated 26-05-2024)

Finally, I managed to get a proper build for all of you to test the initial ideas of the prototype! It is currently only available for windows x64 users. I hope you enjoy it and please, I would appreciate as much feedback as possible.

I just completed the demo. Looks fun. Got a great storyline where one part leads to the next. Had to find the rotate camera keys myself which is not the best, maybe add that info to the start

P.S. this is smarty on discord

Indeed, some tutorials are missing. Thanks for playing it and the feedback you gave me in discrod. Very helpul!

Game looks pretty cool, it's a good art style!

I wasn't too sure where to go, but I like being able to see a lot of the world around you, because I ended up just jumping around and trying to reach things I could see.

Thanks for playing the demo. Indeed, it needs more visual indications of the main path, whereas the world around is just there to explore as you said. In any case, I am currently shifting towards stealth-like game in smaller maps. Designing and building the levels for this style of game was way too much for a solo dev. Soon i will be adding a post on the development of the new game mechanics prototype!

thanks for your feedback, really appreciated!

I also like the style of the game.

Thanks, Ive been working quite  a lot on getting the graphics rather simple but enjoyable.

I can tell.

Thank you for following me. Also, this game is amazing.
